General Mansfield Lovell
What did I do?
First I removed the larger scratches and dust from the background, and then smoothed the background over. Once the background looked more or less good, I filled in the missing corners and edges. Then I removed the scratches and noise from the face and the clothes, smoothing the clothes to feel less pixelated. The table and books on the right hand side were more difficult as there was very little that wasn’t covered in specks, but I worked over that as well, maintaining as much of the original detail as possible. Finally, I lightened the highlights and darkened the shadows to intensify the contrast.
